Jacek Markunas | Biography
Jacek Markunas was born on August 13th 1952 in Lodz, Poland and died September 7th 2005.
After XXX Grammar School, in 1971 he attended Technical University of Lodz (textile department). As a student of the technical University of Lodz, in 1976, he entered Fine Arts Academy “Wladyslaw Strzeminski” in Lodz,
Jacek Markunas studied at the Academy of fine Arts in Lodz, under the supervision of Roman Modzelewski, and attained a Master’s degree in painting in 1981.He graduated Department of Clothing Design and his diploma was shown at ‘’Diploma’81’’exhibition.
Jacek was a fashion designer in the Division of Designing of the Textile Industry Research and Development Center. In years 1990-1996 he worked as a Marketing Manager in Pollena-Ewa S.A. Cosmetics Factory. He designed packages and Fair Exhibitions for the company. The company’s logo and bottle of the first polish professional Eau de Perfume, “Eva”, were among his most important designs.
In 1995 he completed the Polish-French post-graduate study of Marketing and Management and he becoming a Master of Economics at both: the University of Lodz and University of Lyon III France.
From the 1980 he expressed himself through painting, particularly abstract works, showing his works at various exhibitions. Mixing art and design with economics and technical knowledge was his life credo.
Jacek Markunas created poetry, drama, film scripts, short stories, design clothing, fabrics furniture, pottery and jewellery. But it was painting in which he expressed his personality all the most. He loved painting and creating abstract worlds. He enjoyed experimenting with form and colour, creating simple and clear compositions based on abstraction and his imagination.
Markunas’s paintings are in many collections in galleries in Poland and in many private collections in Poland, France, UK and USA.
